Deliberations resume in Nagin trial

Update 9:01am:  All jurors arrived today and have returned to deliberations in the Nagin trial.

After a day off, could today be the day we get a verdict in the trial of former New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin? A juror who couldn't make it to court yesterday returned today.

The juror had a "medical issue."

The judge at New Orleans Federal Court stopped deliberations yesterday because of the absence.

WWL TV Legal Analyst Chick Foret says that may indicate that the jury has made significant progress and the judge didn't want to use an alternate and start from scratch.

"The deliberations would have had to have started all over."

The jury deliberated half a day on Monday.

They have 21 counts of conspiracy, bribery, fraud, money laundering, and tax violations to consider.

Foret says the judge apparently didn't want to lose whatever progress had been made Monday.

"She thought it was best for everyone to come back (Wednesday) and pick up deliberations."
