''Extremely hazardous'' conditions persist

The National Weather Service says a wintery mix will keep falling through the nighttime hours.

"A mixture of freezing rain...sleet and snow will continue across Southeast Louisiana and south Mississippi this evening before gradually winding down after midnight," according to forecasters.

They warn that hazardous travel conditions will continue into tomorrow morning.

"Driving conditions will continue to be extremely hazardous in many areas tonight...especially on elevated surfaces such as bridges and overpasses. Temperatures are not expected to rise above freezing for any significant period of time before noon."

The threat to knock out power continues too.

"Ice accumulation of a quarter of an inch has the potential to cause significant problems with power lines and tree limbs becoming too heavy to maintain their integrity."

Wednesday morning lows are forecast to be in the teens and 20's.
