BELLE CHASSE - Plaquemines Parish President Billy Nungesser has announced that the Plaquemines Parish Government offices will be open on Thursday, January 30.
"Although we are expecting some very cold temperatures tonight, the newest forecasts for the area are predicting that the worst is behind us," said Nungesser. "Our crews have been working around the clock to monitor the weather and road conditions. I want to thank all of the residents for their cooperation and patience these last few days."
The Woodland Bridge remains open to two-lane traffic in both directions at this time. The Belle Chasse Bridge remains restricted to one lane at this time. The Belle Chasse Tunnel also remains open at this time.
Both ferries are nonoperational at this time. The Pointe-a-la-Hache Ferry will remain closed for the rest of the day. We are anticipating the reopening of the Belle Chasse/Scarsdale Ferry as soon as weather conditions permit.
Plaquemines Parish School Board has announced that schools will be open on Thursday, January 30.
"People heeded the warnings and advisories we issued and that's what really made the difference," said Nungesser. "During the last 48 hours, we increased our social media presence and were able to get up-to-the-minute information out to residents through Facebook and Twitter. We really appreciate all the photos and feedback from our residents."
Parish officials are closely monitoring the weather conditions. Updates will be posted on the Parish Web site and social media sites.
