Council discussed minimum wage and Mardi Gras laws
The New Orleans City Council has passed a resolution that calls on the state to raise the minimum wage in Louisiana.
It is a "resolution urging Governor Jindal and the State Legislature to adopt legislation that will increase the minimum wage in Louisiana to $10.10."
The federal minimum wage is $7.25 per hour, and that has been the case since 2009.
Council members are raising the minimum wage in New Orleans, just recommending the state consider the issue.
Jindal is not in favor of the idea.
"No... I think we should continue to comply with the federal minimum wage," he said.
Jindal says he favors efforts to create more high paying jobs.
Also today, the council passed new laws supporters say are aimed at increasing Mardi Gras parade safety. Click here to read that story.
