Louisiana promotes Mardi Gras not only in New Orleans

Louisiana has started its first ever Mardi Gras tourism campaign. It is a series of print and interactive web advertisements that will run in surrounding states.  Lt. Governor Jay Dardenne says the theme of these new ads is to let potential visitors in other states know that Mardi Gras doesn't just happen in New Orleans.
"There are experiences all over Louisiana that can be enjoyed. These will be a series of very colorful and very clever print ads," Dardenne says.
Some examples of the new ad headlines are "the parade is longer than you think" and  "come reign, r-e-i-g-n, on our parade." Dardenne says this is a great time for the ads because Mardi Gras comes later this year and gives people more time to plan a get-a-way after the holidays.
"We're showcasing carnival festivities from the traditional festivities in New Orleans to the Courir de Mardi Gras in Southwest Louisiana and even some of the pet centered celebrations," Dardenne says.

Dardenne says he wants people to know that there are other places to celebrate than just New Orleans because there are different ways to experience the festival.

"We want people to understand that Mardi Gras is something they can experience throughout the state and really pick the type of passion they want to have. If they want the big New Orleans scene, it's there. If not there are a lot of places in Louisiana that have wonderful family oriented parades," Dardenne says.
