Skeletal remains found in Slidell area home identified

Northshore authorities say they now have an identity to go with a skeleton found this week.

"The St. Tammany Parish Coroner's Office has provided the Sheriff's Office with an identification for the skeletal remains found...in an abandoned home on West Street, near Bayou Liberty, in the Slidell area," Capt. George Bonnett said in a news release. "The remains have been identified as that of John Felton Winston, an individual who was reported to the Sheriff's Office as missing in January 2010."

Authorities did not release details about how Winston died.

"The investigation in to the circumstance surrounding Winston's death is ongoing and no more information is available at this time," Bonnett explained.

Sheriff Jack Strain said he "looks forward to working with them to fill in the pieces surrounding Winston’s disappearance and death in hopes of providing his family, who never gave up searching for this man, some sort of closure."
