Are Ryan Perrilloux's antics rubbing off on his teammates?

LSU Quarterback Ryan Perrilloux is still suspended for missing classes and team workouts, so he wasn't there on Saturday when Coach Les Miles put his team through conditioning drills. Saturday was supposed to be the Tigers' first scrimmage of Spring, but it was canceled and replaced by a series of sprints.

LSU Sports Information Director Michael Bonnette told the media on Saturday that the scrimmage was canceled because of the weather.

Miles told the media Monday night that he wanted to have the scrimmage at the beginning of the week instead of the end. But he also admitted he wanted to send a message that academics are just as important as football by making his team run. This comes on the heels of a report that says the Tigers spent the morning running, because several players have been missing classes.

One of the concerns with keeping Perrilloux on the team is that it may send the wrong message to the rest of the team. You can keep screwing up, but you'll still be on the field come Saturday.

There might also be a hangover effect for the Tigers. During spring practice, the players have talked about putting last year in the rear view mirror, but it has to be hard to forget about last season's national championship run.

LSU isn't the first college football team that has had trouble with players skipping class or not performing as well as they should in the classroom. But it's still something you don't want to hear about two months after winning the national championship.
