An autopsy is set today after authorities say a teenager's body was found in the trunk of a car in Slidell.
Police say the vehicle was in a wooded area on Teddy Avenue.
Detectives reported finding a lot of blood in the car.
Slidell Detective Daniel Seuzeneau says it appears the male teen was shot to death. They have evidence suggesting the murder may have happened in New Orleans and the car was dumped in Slidell.
The investigation started when people living in the area called cops to report a suspicious Infiniti car in the woods.
The NOPD is working with Slidell police on the investigation.
Here is the news release from Slidell P.D.:
A gruesome discovery Sunday morning, in a normally quiet Slidell neighborhood, has Slidell Police and New Orleans Police searching for answers.
Around 8:30 a.m. Sunday morning, Slidell Police received a call from a resident on Teddy Avenue in reference to a suspicious vehicle parked in a wooded lot between Ninth and Tenth Streets. When police arrived, they discovered a white Infinity covered with a large amount of blood. When authorities opened the trunk they discovered the body an African American male, who appeared to be in his late teens. Slidell Police detectives ruled the case as a homicide and began their investigation. Early on in the investigation, Slidell Police found the victim to have ties to the New Orleans area, at which point, Slidell Police and N.O.P.D. began a joint investigation.
N.O.P.D. and Slidell Police worked closely together for several hours before discovering that the murder occurred in the New Orleans area. From that point forward, Slidell Police transferred the case to N.O.P.D. who is now in charge of the investigation. Authorities have not discovered what ties, if any, the victim or his assailants had to the Slidell area. The investigation is ongoing and any further information will be disseminated through the New Orleans Police Department.
Chief Randy Smith says, “I am pleased that our agency worked closely with the N.O.P.D. throughout the course of this investigation. Although it is alarming for us to find a dead body in our area, we were able to determine that the killing did not happen here in Slidell.”
