Covington cop placed on leave for accidental weapon discharge
Covington Police Captain Jack West, already under investigation, has now been placed on paid administrative leave after he accidentally discharged a weapon inside the police station earlier this week.
West claimed he didn't know the shotgun was loaded as he demonstrated it to a new recruit on Wednesday. The shot left a hole in the ceiling.
Police Chief Tim Lentz says the incident is under investigation and West was placed on leave, in light of another investigation in which he's involved.
West is being investigated for his role in the arrests of two high school football referees in October, when West was serving as interim Covington Police chief. An investigation is underway into those arrests and the handling of that case.
