Cops: Louisiana Nat'l Guard soldiers stole gear

Three Louisiana National Guardsmen are accused of stealing $13,000 worth of night vision goggles and M-16 scopes from an LNG armory in Farmerville. Sheriff Dusty Gates says the theft occurred in April, but a deputy was recently told about the crime. Gates says they launched an investigation and one of the three suspects admitted to stealing the items.

Gates says a confession by the one of the suspects led to the arrest of 33-year-old Justin Michael of Farmerville, 22-year-old Kristopher Ryan Redding of Sterlington and 26-year-old Austin Brett Hiser of Monroe. The Louisiana National Guard says the incident is under investigation.  Gates says he's not sure why they stole the equipment.

Gates says the national guardsmen arrested, were working on another project at the armory, when they stole the equipment. The stolen items have been returned to the Louisiana National Guard.
