New Orleans' official Christmas parade takes to the city's downtown streets today.
The sixth annual Krewe of Jingle rolls on an extended route, Saturday, at 1 o'clock.
What used to be just a Canal Street parade has gotten quite a bit bigger.
"It's grown every year," says Kurt Weigle, President & CEO of the Downtown Development District. "This year it's going to start at Lee Circle and go down St. Charles Avenue, make a big loop on Canal Street and then back out Baronne Street."
"It's rolling almost two hours these days." Weigle says. "So, by about 3 o'clock, we should be all wrapped up, after we make that entire route."
"It's going to be great New Orleans parade with all sorts of magical surprises."
This year's parade features some of the area's favorite celebrities.
"Somebody I think your listeners are familiar with," says Weigle. "Angela Hill will be celebrity Grand Marshall, leading the way."
And, she'll be in fine company for the holiday ride.
"We're going to have Mr. Bingle, right up there with Angela Hill...New Orleans legends. Mr. Bingle's going to be in the parade, Christmas and holiday characters, stilt walkers, some of the city's great high school marching bands and authentic parade floats. It's going to be a fantastic time."
"With Christmas New Orleans Style and all the other pieces coming together, it's another exciting holiday season downtown."
