Construction boom helping drive Louisiana economy

According to the Association of General Contractors of America, construction jobs in Louisiana grew 8.3 percent over the past year.  That's over 10,000 job.

"We have about $90 billion worth of industrial construction projects scheduled out between now and 2018," said LSU professor emeritus of economics Loren Scott.  "This is just the tip of the iceberg."

Scott said with the construction largely in new industrial facilities, or expansions of existing ones, growth should continue even after those projects are done.

"This is going to continue well into 2016, 20116.  We haven't even begun to see the peak of this yet," he said.

Scott said there will be more hiring when the construction work is done, and a lot of the jobs require skilled workers who command good pay.
