Sleet possible tonight north of the lake

The weather across southeastern Louisiana can be safely described as "dreary," with rain chances 80 percent and highs that won't make 50 degrees.

"We'll see windy conditions with rain around," said Channel 4 meteorologist Laura Buchtel, "and highs in the 40s."

The good news is clearing skies are on the way, but not until overnight, with a possibility of some of the final showers after dark containing sleet, at least for the northernmost regions of the area.

Once the front sweeps the precipitation onward, the forecast calls for clear skies in the holiday weekend, but lows could go below freezing on both sides of the lake.

"During the day Wednesday, we're going to see clearing skies, but cold temperatures," said Laura.  "Highs only 47."

Overnight lows Wednesday heading into Thanksgiving: 30 south of the lake and 26 on the Northshore.
