New Orleans homicide detectives this morning are looking for whoever shot and killed a 25-year-old man, and in the process, shot and killed the man's 7-month-old baby boy.
It happened around 9:00 p.m. on General de Gaulle Drive in Algiers. Police say the victims were passengers in the rear seat of a Honda sedan when someone in a dark-colored vehicle began shooting.
The driver of the Honda and the front seat passenger were unhurt.
"It's very sad to have to see this and our community deserves better," said New Orleans Police Superintendent Ronal Serpas. "I've been crossing under yellow tape for decades, and it's difficult and disturbing every single time. But it was heartbreaking to see what was clearly a bullet hole in the side of a baby's car seat."
Police say they believe the shooter and the baby's father knew each other. Anyone who has information on this crime is asked to call Crimestoppers at 822-1111. You do not have to leave your name or testify to be eligible for a cash reward.
