Poll: Dog owners willing to risk life for pet

How far would you go to save your pet's life?

A new 60 Minutes/Vanity Fair poll shows dog owners are more than willing to risk their own life!

According to this nationwide poll, 85% say they would run into a burning home to save their dog.  Almost all of the local dog owners I talked to in the CBD in an informal survey agree.  A woman told me she would risk her own life, "Yes, and I'd try to watch my own life at the same time.  But I will go back for her, I can't leave her like that, I would feel guilty for the rest of my life. I can't do that."

A couple of guys say it does depend on how badly the building is burning, as one man put it, "It's a game time decision."

It's a difficult and heart wrenching decision for pet owners: How much do you spend for life saving medical treatment?   "If their favorite pet needed surgery in order to live, 22 percent of Americans said they would pay up to $1,000. Nineteen percent would go up to $500, 14 percent would stop at $100, 10 percent would shell out $3,000, nine percent would hold the line at $5000," CBS News says and 15% say they'd even go higher than $10,000 if it meant saving their dog's life.

What would local dog owners spend?  Most told me about a thousand dollars is their cut off, some because they don't have the money.  Others say it would depend on how much the medical treatment could help their pet.  One woman told me she would go over $10,000 because "She's like my daughter, she's like my child, I love her more than anything in the whole world."
