Houma cops have arrested a 13-year-old boy for allegedly causing the ATV crash that killed another child.
"Houma Police were called to Buena Vista Blvd. in reference to a single vehicle ATV crash," Chief Todd Duplantis said in a news release.
When cops arrived they say they found that five children were on the multi-seat ATV when it crashed.
"The ATV was traveling Southbound at an extreme rate of speed on Buena Vista Blvd towards Sherman St. Upon getting to Sherman Street the driver attempted a left turn and upon making the turn onto Sherman the ATV flipped," Duplantis explained.
He says there were varying degrees of injuries to most of the children, and a 14 year old died on the scene.
"The front seat passenger John Kole Farmer, W/M, 10/24/1999, of Paris Lane Houma, was partially ejected and the ATV landed on top of him causing fatal injuries."
Other children received moderate to minor injuries.
Duplantis said, "The 13 year-old driver of the Polaris ATV was arrested and charged with negligent homicide, negligent injury, reckless operation, drivers must be licensed, and operating an unsafe vehicle. He was transported to juvenile detention."
Police also charged the owner, Robin Reynolds, with contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile and allowing a minor to drive.
