St. Bernard President under investigation after sexual assault allegation
Dave Cohen Reporting
Louisiana State Police are investigating St. Bernard Parish President David Peralta for alleged sexual assault.
Trooper Melissa Matey told WWL First News, "The Louisiana State Police was called by the St. Bernard Sheriff's Office yesterday."
She could not share specifics. She did say, "We were asked to step in and investigate an allegation of sexual assault."
Peralta's written statement on the matter says, "I am disappointed and embarrassed by the baseless allegations made against me. This is a sad and baffling domestic issue that should have never risen to this level. In short time, I am confident this will be resolved. In the meantime, I will continue to focus on my responsibility to this parish and will not be sidetracked by a personal disagreement."
Matey said the complaint was first made to St. Bernard Sheriff's officials Sunday, and the local authorities called them.
"The complaint was made yesterday, on October 27th, and State Police was immediately brought into the investigation."
Matey says they will turn over the findings of the invevestigation of David Peralta to the St. Bernard District Attorney.
