Mayor: Charges dropped against refs

The mayor of Covington says officials have dropped all charges against a pair of referees arrested last week.

It was "the right thing to do," Mike Cooper insisted.

It comes after Covington Police charged Head Referee James Radcliffe and Line Judge Chris Gambino with public intimidation at the St. Paul's - Mandeville game last Friday.

The entire thing started when the chain gang and some fans had a disagreement that led to cops stepping into to try and diffuse the situation.

The officers arrested the two officials after a disagreement about how to handle the situation.

Mayor Cooper apologized to the officials.

He also asked St. Tammany Parish District Attorney Walter Reed to drop the charges and says Reed agreed.
