First loss a hard one for Who Dat Nation to swallow

Saints fans this season now know what a loss tastes like: bitter, after a gut-wrenching end in New England.

Some would have liked to have seen the defense come through on that last Patriots drive.

"I think we could have won that game if the defense played better," one fan told us this morning, but she also knows the offense had a chance to take Tom Brady and the Patriots offense out of the equation entirely: "The last possession that offense had, Brees just couldn't get the first down.  We needed that last first down to win that game."

After the Patriots turned the ball over on downs late in the fourth quarter to set up a Saints field goal, the Saints got another chance to run the clock down on a Tom Brady interception to Keenan Lewis.  But instead of killing the clock, the Saints had to punt the ball back to New England after going three-and-out.

"They played to conservative at the end of the game," said another fan.  "Sean Payton, he made calls out of character yesterday, not playing aggressive enough."

"The offense should finish the game.  You gotta get the first down, you've got to," another said.

The Saints first loss of the season will have extra time to linger, with the Black and Gold on their bye week before returning to the Superdome October 27 to play Buffalo.

"Bow Down When you Come to My Town" was once a hot tune by Westside Connection in the 90's, and it came to mind last Thursday night when I drove home and was listening to a beat-down in Seattle. I've seen a bunch of beat downs, but rarely one as...

Sure, it's not the start the Saints envisioned, but as many have said in the past, you are what your record says you are in the NFL - and the Saints are 0 and 2 for a reason. "Typically a play here, a play there, you can't describe. A lot of these games...
