Feds file charges against St. Tammany coroner

Federal prosecutors have filed charges against St. Tammany Coroner Dr. Peter Galvan.

After facing months of questions regarding his office's use of credit cards, property, and salaries for himself and staff, a Bill of Information by prosecutors accused Galvan of conspiring to personally profit from his office.

The Bill of Information specifies that Galvan, among other alleged misdeeds, collected more than $110,000 in sick leave to which he was not entitled.

Galvan is reportedly cooperating with authorities and is expected to plead guilty.

In the Bill of Information, prosecutors say Galvan used thousands of dollars in office funds to outfit his personal boat.

St. Tammany officials say Galvan will resign next Friday, October 18.
