Reward doubles in Northshore pistol-whipping case

Sheriff's deputies in St. Tammany Parish today are asking for the public's help in finding the perpetrator of a brutal robbery.

As an 80-year-old man closed up his tire shop on Highway 11 last week, authorities say he was approached by a masked gunman, dressed all in black.  Police say the robber demanded money, and the man forked over his cash.  It was after the robber got his money that Capt. George Bonnett in the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's office says things got violent.

"The perpetrator took an undisclosed amount of money off the gentleman and then hit him with his weapon," Bonnett said.

Bonnett says the gunman pistol-whipped the victim so severely that the elderly man fell down and broke his hip.  Today, the sheriff's office is announcing an anonymous donation doubled the Crimestoppers reward for information leading to an indictment.  It now stands at $5,000.

Detectives are asking anyone who might know something about the robbery at Big T Tires on Highway 11 on September 30 to call the sheriff's office at (985) 726-7845, or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111, or toll free at (877) 903-STOP (7867).
