What's hot for Halloween this year?

Even though nationally consumers say they're not going to spend as much on Halloween this year, a different story is shaping up in New Orleans.  The National Retail Federation says spending on the ghoulish holiday is going to be down considerably this year, but some costume shops locally are reporting people have been planning their outfits since last month and sales are brisk.

With Halloween on a Thursday, there will be events locally for two weekends, and Voodoo Fest will help extend the spooky celebrations into early November.

October 31st is just three weeks from today and it looks like you're going to see a whole lot of "twerking" on the streets of New Orleans this year.  "Probably one of the biggest costumes, at least for some people, is going to be the Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke (outfits) from the MTV video music awards," says Amy O'Hara, manager of New Orleans Party and Costume near the French Quarter.

She says there are camisoles just like the one Miley wore available, and the striped suit Robin Thicke wore during the infamous twerking act, and folks are looking for foam fingers too.

She says they're also seeing a resurgence in traditional witches, devils and vampires.

What's hot in Kenner?

"We go from very, very sexy to very, very scary," says Michael Venko with Humbug says zombies are still hot in Jefferson Parish, although O'Hara says zombies are starting to cool a little in the city.  As far as the sexy outfits, Venko says "The traditional cat and bunny always goes over big."
