A two-year-old boy is dead after relatives found the child in a swimming pool the day before his birthday party.
Cops in Houma today are releasing details about the weekend drowning.
"Houma Police were called to the 3000 block of Redwood Circle," Chief Todd Duplantis said in a news release. "(It was) a medical emergency involving a 2 year old male child found in a pool unconscious."
He says the little boy apparently walked into the backyard unnoticed.
"Upon arrival officers spoke to the child's mother who advised she was inside her mother's residence baking cakes for her son's birthday party scheduled for Sunday when they noticed he was missing," according to Duplantis. "She along with other family members searched the area and noticed her child was in the above ground swimming pool behind the house unconscious. The child was removed from the pool and CPR was administered to no avail."
Duplantis says the little boy would have celebrated his third birthday the next day.
