Report: NFL fines Bucs safety for late hit on Jimmy Graham

Buccaneers safety Ahmad Black tells members of the Tampa media he was fined $21,000 by the NFL for a vicious illegal hit on Saints tight end Jimmy Graham.

Earlier this week, Bucs safety Dashon Goldson was suspended one game for an illegal helmet-to-helmet hit on running back Darren Sproles, only to see that suspension reduced to a $100,000 fine.

Saints fans have wondered all week when and if a fine against Black would be coming, given that the hit on Graham looked much worse than the hit by Goldson on Sproles.

In two games, the Bucs have racked up six personal foul penalties and four unnecessary roughness penalties.

Earlier this week, Saints quarterback Drew Brees vented about the personal fouls by the Bucs players.

"And then obviously the hit on Jimmy (Graham)...but it was obvious they were going at his head," Brees said. "I have no sympathy for that.  I care for those guys and I don’t want to see that happen to our guys.  I know the rules and I know it is tough playing the safety position in the middle, things happen fast, but then again, there are some instances where it is pretty obvious a guy was going for another guy’s head and that happened on at least two occasions in our game."
