Slidell Police today announced five arrests in the murder of a man over the weekend.
Cops say 23-year-old Leighton Powe Jr. died after the suspects tried to rob him of his marijuana.
"Police discovered that Ki'Shion Griffin orchestrated a plan to rob Powe of his marijuana," Detective Daniel Seuzeneau said in a news release. "Griffin sent Felix Adams Jr., Bobby Isidore, and Trenton Johnson to commit the robbery. Powe met the trio behind the Dollar General and got into Johnson's truck. At some point, the robbery went wrong."
He says the gunfire followed.
"Adams pulled out his .38 revolver, and shot Powe once in the head. The trio fled, dumped the body, and then set Johnson's truck on fire in an attempt to destroy the evidence," Seuzeneau said. "Darion Causey, who also played a role in the botched robbery, assisted the suspect's in destroying evidence."
Detectives say they were able to identify and arrest all of the suspects quickly.
"In less than 48 hours after the murder, Slidell Police had all suspects identified and in custody," Seuzeneau said. "The complexity of this investigation has resulted in over twenty search warrants and over ten different crime scenes that had to be processed by investigators."
"This was a senseless killing," Slidell Police Chief Randy Smith said. "I'd like to also thank our partners CrimeStoppers, and the media, for assisting us."
