On this Labor Day, we find that 1.9 million people are employed in Louisiana. That's based on the latest job figures from the state's Workforce Commission. LWC spokesman Tom Guarisco says there are 8,400 more jobs than at this time last year, and the number of people employed in Louisiana is expected to grow faster than the national average through 2020.
"Areas that we are going to see the most growth in are industrial construction, advanced manufacturing and health care," Guarisco said.
Guarisco adds that workforce training is a big focus of the commission as the state looks to meet the demand for all of these jobs.
He says the private sector has also been adding jobs for the past 35 consecutive months, which is another good sign.
"For almost three straight years, companies and employers have been adding positions, creating more jobs than have been lost."
