How it happened: LSU Quarterback Zach Mettenberger threw for 251 yards and one touchdown and Terrence Magee rushed for two TDS in the Tigers 37-27 win over the Horned Frogs. The Bayou Bengals new-look defense also played well, allowing 259 total yards.
Turning Point: LSU was in control for most of this game, but TCU made it interesting in the 4th quarter and they were within three points with 7:35 left in the game. But Odell Beckham returned a kick 75 yards to set up the Tigers final touchdown.
Passing game passes the test: Even though Mettenberger completed 50% of his passes, he still threw for 251 yards. The chemistry was also good with his two top receivers. Jarvis Landry had eight catches for 109 yards and one touchdown and Beckham had five catches for 118 yards.
Terrence takes over: Jeremy Hill did not play and Alfred Blue was good, but not great and had a costly fumble. Terrence Magee came in and gave the running game a spark. Magee had 13 rushes for 95 yards and two touchdowns. His 52-yard touchdown run started the 2nd half on a good note.
Mills continues tradition of DBU: Jalen Mills appears to be the next great cornerback to come out of LSU. The six-foot-one sophomore from Texas had five tackles, one interception and one pass break-up. His fellow starting cornerback, Jalen Collins, also had a nice game, with three tackles and one pass break-up.
Stat of the game: The Tigers have now won 42 straight non-conference regular season games.
Up next: LSU can make it 43 straight non-conference regular season games when they host UAB in the home opener on Saturday. The Blazers lost on Saturday falling to Troy 34-31 in overtime. Trojans QB Cory Robinson completed 30-of-32 passes for 319 yards and a touchdown.
