Mandeville PD releases sketch of suspect in attempted child abduction

Northshore authorities have released a computer composite sketch of a man who allegedly tried to abduct an 11-year-old Mandeville girl.
Police say the incident happened on Tuesday at about 3:45 p.m. as the girl was getting of a bus near the intersection of Cambronne Street and Barbara Place.
According to Mandeville Police Captain Ron Ruple, the girl told them the man asked her if she needed a ride home.
"The child ran towards her house and as she reached the front door, she looked back and saw the driver running after her," Ruple said. "The child was able to rush inside the house before the subject could get close to the residence. The child quickly told her father, who ran outside but the subject had already fled in the vehicle."
Investigators are now asking for help finding the suspect.
"The child described the suspect as an Hispanic male, heavy set with dark colored hair cut short and with a mustache and glasses. The subject was wearing a light blue polo style shirt. Witnesses in the area advised a subject matching that description has been seen before driving a late model sedan, possibly a Cadillac, that is rust covered with possibly a faded green paint job," according to Ruple.
