Bobby Hebert: We've seen the last of Will Smith as a Saint

Following the news that the Saints have reportedly lost yet another member of the defense for the season due to injury, WWL's Bobby Hebert and Mike Detillier talked about what it means for the team.

The "Cajun Cannon" Bobby Hebert said the Saints will miss Smith this season, and probably for seasons to come.

"I think we've seen the last of Will Smith in a Saints uniform," Hebert said.  "He still was a very capable run-stopper when they were running right at him, and also at times when he was rushing the passer, he'd push the pocket."

Hebert said it doesn't take much to blow out a knee given the way Smith appeared to get injured in the Saints-Houston game.

"It looked serious when he injury happened, when Cam Jordan got the sack, and how he (Smith) got leg-whipped, your knee just doesn't hold up."

Detillier says Smith's misfortune could be a gold mine for other players.

"One thing it does do is open the door for the Martez Wilson-Junior Galette setup," Detillier said.  But, the thing I think it really does is blow the door open for Jay Richardson.  He's a Rob Ryan guy, who played DE...And then with one day of practice at OLB, and he was started against the Kansas City Chiefs (at OLB.)"

Hebert also said the team needs to have a lot of good luck moving forward.

"You need to say your prayers, Saints fans...that Junior Galette and Martez Wilson work out and they kick ass, because it could be almost how we play at outside linebacker on whether we make the playoffs or not," according to The Cannon.
