Murder near busy Kenner intersection

Kenner police are investigating a murder near the intersection of West Metairie Ave. and Roosevelt Blvd.  It happened just after 9:00 in the morning.

"At approximately 09:25 a.m., Sunday, August 25, 2013, the Kenner Police Department received a telephone call reporting gunshots and a subject down in the 1900 block of Roosevelt Boulevard, in Kenner," Sergeant Brian McGregor said in a news release.  "Officers responding to the location found Derrick Garner, 24, of Kenner, had been shot."

He says the victim did make it to the ER, but could not be saved.

"Garner was transported to University Hospital where his death was pronounced," McGregor said.

Detectives are working to figure out what happened.

"At the present time no motive or suspect has been determined.    Witnesses report seeing a beige colored sedan fleeing the location directly after the shooting," the sergeant said.

They are asking for help solving the case.

"Chief Steve Caraway urges anyone with information concerning this incident, to call Kenner Police Detective Jessica Zuppardo at (504) 712-2410 or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111."
