Videos of Assumption sinkhole eating trees go viral with more than 3 million views
Chris Miller Reporting
The video of the Bayou Corne sinkhole has gathered a huge amount of attention -- more than three million hits since it was uploaded to YouTube just the other day.
"It's definitely going viral," said Assumption Parish Office of Emergency Preparedness director John Boudreaux said. "We're also getting the national media."
The video uploaded Wednesday, that shows several trees, sinking simultaneously into the flooded pit, has been watched more than three million times on YouTube. Assumption authorities have since uploaded another video, that shows a tall tree vertically descending, as if on an elevator, into the hole.
Boudreaux says he hopes the growing attention will help bring in new ideas on how to mitigate the situation.
