New Orelans Police say there are several unanswered questions surrounding what cops initially said was a man and woman leaving their child at a downtown hotel, refusing to come get the little boy.
"We are currently working a domestic situation in the 300 block of Loyola Ave. A male and female were involved in a domestic dispute when witnesses observed a male subject force the female into a vehicle and drove off," Officer Frank Robertson said in a news release.
He said the couple left without the child.
"Detectives arrived and found the couple's 6-year-old son still inside of their hotel room, the child was unharmed," Robertson explained. "The incident occurred around 5:15am."
"We have taken the child in protective custody. The parents are still refusing to speak to us in person," Robertson said.
Police now say the incident appears to be a kidnapping of a woman.
"Detectives viewed the surveillance footage and observed a male arguing with a female and physically attacking her. After the attack, the suspect put her into his car and then fled. Another woman is in the video and appears to be with them," Officer Garry Flot said.
After initial reports indicated the parents refused to return to get the six-year-old boy, Flot now says, "Detectives have made contact with a female claiming to be the mother however, we can't confirm if she is the parent and she has not cooperated with police at this time."
