Veteran NOPD Detective indicted on child rape charges

A state grand jury today indicted a long-time New Orleans Police Homicide Detective on charges of having sex with minors.
The NOPD suspended Detective Desmond Pratt Sr. in April as the investigation into the charges began to take shape. The charges allege misconduct spanning three decades.
The indictment alleges Pratt committed sexual battery on a 15-year-old in 2001. He also faces a charge of carnal knowledge of a juvenile in 1997 or 1998, as well as a previous charge of aggravated incest stemming from an April 2013 complaint.
Pratt worked some of the highest-profile murder cases in the city’s recent history, including several murders connected to killer Telly Hankton.
Pratt worked at the Sixth Police District as a patrol officer at the time of his arrest in April.
