Major NFL policy change for fan bags

Starting this preseason, the NFL is requiring that most bags brought into all stadiums, including the Superdome, be smaller than a certain size and must be made of material that is completely clear.

The NFL’s website says the policy “will enhance public safety and make it easier for fans to gain access to all stadiums.”  In fact, officials are encouraging fans not to bring in any types of bags at all, but for those that do, the league has issued guidelines for what is permissible.

Among other items, fans will no longer be able to bring in purses larger than a clutch bag, seat cushions, fanny packs, backpacks, or camera bags.

Saints officials say upon learning of the new NFL policy, they placed a rush order for team-branded bags and will make a complimentary bag available to every season-ticket holder.  However, the bags will not arrive until prior to our the regular season game against Atlanta on Sunday, September 8th.  Team officials say they have been able to purchase 10,000 bags for season ticket holders that are now available for pickup at the Training Facility on Airline Drive while supplies last.

There is no charge for the Saints-branded bag, but the team is limiting each account to one bag so they can accommodate as many season ticket holders as possible.

Here are the details of what is now allowed and not allowed at the Superdome:

Allowed:  Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and do not exceed 12” x 6” x 12.”
Allowed:  One-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc bag or similar.)

Allowed: Small clutch bags, approximately the size of a hand, with or without a handle or strap can be taken into the stadium with one of the clear plastic bags.

Medical exception:  An exception will be made for medically necessary items after proper inspection at a gate designated for this purpose.

NOT ALLOWED:

Prohibited items include,
but are not limited to: purses larger than a clutch bag, coolers, briefcases, backpacks, fanny packs, cinch bags, seat cushions, luggage of any kind, computer bags and camera bags or any bag larger than the permissible size.
