Alabama is number one, LSU is number 13 in the first coaches poll of the 2013 college football season.
There are five SEC teams (Alabama, Georgia, Texas A&M, South Carolina and Florida) ranked above LSU.
"(It's) no big surprise," said WWL.com LSU Columnist Jeff Palermo. "They finished last year at 12 in the coaches poll, and when you consider all the losses that they've had on defense and still some question marks about the offense... I think a number 13 ranking is probably worthy."
Is LSU the 6th best team in the SEC?
"LSU is not better than Alabama, I don't think they are not better than Georgia. Texas A&M?... You just wonder with a school that's not used to winning... can they do it two years in a row?... But there's no doubt that Alabama, Georgia and probably even South Carolina are better than LSU at this point," Palermo explained. "I can make a strong argument that LSU is probably better than Florida."
Palermo says on the bright side, LSU has started worse and finished first.
"In 2003, they were ranked #14 to start the season, and they ended up -of course- winning the national championship."
