Woman improving after hit by lighting inside Houma store

A woman struck by lightning in a Houma Rouse's remains in the hospital with burns to her legs and feet.

"The officers did call her today, and it appears her condition is improving," Houma Police Chief Todd Duplantis said.

Duplantis says they think they now know how the lighting hit the woman Monday while she was inside the grocery story.

"The officers at the scene believe that the lightning actually struck the building roof and conducted through the sprinkler system," according to the chief.

Duplantis says this is a very unusual case.
