Funeral today for NOPD officer killed in hit-and-run
The New Orleans Police Department will say good-bye today to one of their own. Officer Rodney Thomas will be laid to rest five days after he was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver on I-10 near the Highrise.
The NOPD says members of the community are invited to attend the funeral services today at Franklin Avenue Baptist Church, at 2515 Franklin Ave. in New Orleans. Visitation will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., with services set to begin at 10 a.m.
Following the service, a procession will pass the 2nd District Station on Magazine Street around 11:30 a.m. The procession will end at Lake Lawn Cemetery where Officer Thomas will be laid to rest.
Investigators have arrested the driver a Porsche that witnesses say was being driven "erratically" when it struck and killed Officer Thomas early Sunday morning.
Two other men, including the owner of a local body shop, have also been arrested for allegedly trying to help cover up evidence of the incident.
Detectives are still looking for at least two other "persons of interest" in the case, including the man in the photo below. Anyone with information about this investigation is asked to call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
