Drowning during party in Cocodrie
Police say a man is dead after a party at a camp in Terrebonne Parish. Officials say he and a woman jumped in the bayou.
"TPSO was called to the area of the 7400 block of Hwy 56 in Cocodrie at 2:04 a.m. in reference to a male subject who jumped into the bayou behind a camp and had failed to surface," Captain Dawn C. Foret said in a news release. "The male jumped into the bayou with another female to swim during a party at a friend's camp."
Foret says the fun ended quickly.
"After several minutes of swimming together, the female reported that she was unable to locate the male. Partygoers attempted to locate the subject in the water, but were unsuccessful," she explained. "The body of the subject was recovered by water patrol units at approximately 5:00 a.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene."
She says the dead man is identified as 25-year-old Justin James (above) from Houma.
"At this time, there does not appear to be any foul play," according to Foret.
