Cops: Crash apparently didn't kill Westbank driver

Cops say a woman may have had a medical problem before running off the road, hitting a tree and dying.  An autopsy is pending.

Jefferson Parish deputies were called to 516 South Jamie in Avondale.

"The driver of a 1998 Jeep Cherokee... was traveling Southbound on South Jamie Blvd. when she apparently left the roadway and struck a tree," Colonel John Fortunato
said in a news release.  "A witness, who was traveling on South Jamie reported seeing the Jeep veer off the roadway before the accident."

He says the victim was identified as 60-year-old Gail Grear from Avondale.

"The victim was transported to West Jefferson General Hospital where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival,"  Fortunato explained.  "According to attending physicians, Gail Grear's injuries were minor, indicating she may have experienced some type of medical problem prior to the crash."
He says they autopsy should give them some answers.
