Jay Vise Reporting
Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's investigators say a Saturday afternoon disturbance involving up to a hundred people has left one man in the hospital.
Police say they received a complaint about a fight at the Lucky Mart on Highway 316. Responding deputies found a group of about 100 people involved in the fracas, according to Sheriff’s Spokeswoman Capt. Dawn Foret. Forest says officers responded within one minute, and upon arrival, “multiple rounds of gunfire were heard.” As the officers tried to locate the source of the gunfire, one person fell to the ground with an apparent gunshot wound to the buttocks area.
Foret says the 23-year-old male victim from Schriever is expected to recover from his injury following surgery.
Witnesses later told police there was a large party at a residence near the intersection of Hwy 316 and West Park Avenue with about 100 people were in attendance. According to investigators, “several subjects joined the party and began an argument with several of the partygoers and several subjects began firing at each other with various weapons.”
Anyone with information about this shooting is asked to call Crimestoppers at 877-903-STOP, or the Terrebonne Sheriff’s Office at 985-876-2500.
