JPSO searching for gang that robbed Hong Kong grocery

Jefferson Parish Sheriff's investigators are searching for a gang of six people who apparently worked together to steal a large amount of cash from an Asian food market on Behrman Highway in Terrytown.
Spokesman Col. John Fortunato says an off-duty JPSO reserve office was working a paid detail at the store on Wednesday when he was alerted by the store's owner that her purse, containing a large sum of U.S. currency, had been stolen. The owner said she believed a group of women and one man were responsible for the robbery.
Fortunato says a follow-up investigation showed a group of individuals approached the counter/office area and asked to speak with the owner. "As she emerged from her office, most of the individuals began distracting the victim by repeatedly asking her questions. It was at that time, unbeknownst to the owner, one of the females walked behind the counter, entered the office and removed her purse," Fortunato said.
Detectives retrieved the store's video surveillance and found evidence that corroborated the store owner's account. "It was evident in the video that six individuals consisting of 5 females and 1 male seemed to be working together to perpetrate this crime," according to Fortunato.
The Sheriff's Office released photos taken from the video, along with an image of a silver minivan the suspects were seen getting into.
Anyone with information in this matter, or who can identify the suspect(s) is asked to contact Detective Darrin Parent at 504-364-5300 or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
