Father Michael Jacques visitation and funeral arrangements

Visitation services for St. Peter Claver's Father Michael Jacques will be held Friday and Saturday.

Visitation at the church, 1923 St. Philip Street in New Orleans, will be from 1 p.m. until 6:15 p.m. Friday, hosted by the 4th Degree Knights of Peter Claver Ritual.

Bishop Shelton Fabre will preside at a Wake Service Friday evening, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Visitation will also he held Saturday morning from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., prior to a funeral Mass at 10 a.m.

Archbishop Gregory Aymond will be the Mass celebrant.

Father Jacques will be interred Monday, in Selma, Alabama.

Very Reverend Michael P. Jacques, S.S.E., V.F., Pastor of St. Peter Claver Parish and Dean of the Cathedral Deanery, died from complications of a heart attack over the night of June 6, 2013. Fr. Jacques was 64 years of age.

Father Jacques was born in Caribou, Maine on April 26, 1949.He earned degrees in social work at Trinity College and St. Michael’s College in Burlington, VT. He entered the Edmundite seminary in Toronto and was ordained into the priesthood on May 29, 1982. He served as administrator at Immaculate Heart in Williiston, VT, and as associate pastor at Our Lady of Lourdes, Mobile, before coming to New Orleans in 1984. He was named associate pastor of St. Peter Claver in September 1984, and assigned as pastor in May 1985 until his recent death. He had also served as pastor of St. Philip the Apostle Parish from 1996-1997. In addition to his pastoral ministry, he served on the Archdiocesan School Board, Dean of the Cathedral Deanery, and College of Consultors.

Father Jacques is survived by one brother and a host of nieces and nephews.
