Tropical Storm Andrea forms in Gulf
The National Hurricane Center says an Air Force reconnaissance aircraft was able to find a well-defined circulation in the low-pressure area over the east-central Gulf of Mexico, leading to the designation of the area as Andrea, the first tropical storm of the season.
However, the storm is expected to have minimal impact upon Louisiana, according to WWL-TV Meteorologist Derek Kevra.
"As far as local impacts from Andrea, we'll see those waves getting a bit choppy in the Gulf of Mexico," Kevra said. "Tides will run one to two feet above average but other than that, the projected path still takes Andrea into Florida, not toward us."
