Officials say Lafourche burglary ring busted

Five young men from the south Lafourche area have been charged with multiple counts of burglary, theft, and criminal damage to property. The burglaries took place in the Galliano area over the past several weeks.

In addition to several homes, authorities say the five targeted the Galliano fire station, stealing five firefighters respirator masks.

Sheriff's spokesman Larry Weidel says the suspects confessed to using the respirator masks to facillitate the smoking of marijuana.

"One of the individuals says he used it as a bong, while smoking marijuana," said Weidel. "I guess he kind of held the smoke a lot longer in the facemask."
