The LSU Baseball Tigers are the #4 national seed in the NCAA playoff brackets. The Tigers, as expected, will host a regional round of playoffs for the 67th annual NCAA Division I Baseball Championship.
Despite beating #1 Vanderbilt to capture the SEC title, LSU was still ranked behind UNC, Vanderbilt, and Oregon State in the final rankings.
In the Baton Rouge regional with LSU: Jackson State, Sam Houston State, and Louisiana-Lafayette.
The Tigers will first face Jackson State, ULL will face Sam Houston. WWL has confirmed that LSU and Jackson State will face off at 2:00 p.m. on Friday.
WWL.com columnist Jeff Palermo says he's a little surprised by the #4 seed, but not that worried by it.
"I would have thought based on winning the SEC Tournament Championship, they would be somewhere in the top 3," Palermo said. "But the important thing is, they are a top 8 national seed. So, if they can get past their regional, they'll be hosting the Super Regional series. And that's really your goal when you start the season, is to be in position to give yourself the best opportunity to get to the College World Series, and that's what LSU has done."
