State Police are investigating a Sunday morning crash in Norco that killed three people and injured two others. Authorities believe speed and impairment were factors in the crash.
According to a release from LSP, the crash occurred just before 2 a.m. on Airline Highway, near Prospect Avenue.
Trooper Melissa Matey said 40-year-old Jennifer Englade, of LaPlace, was driving on Airline Highway when she crossed the median and struck a vehicle driven by 23-year-old Romishe Mejia-Fequie, of Harvey.
Mejia-Fequie was pronounced dead on the scene, as was the front passenger in Englade's car, 29-year-old Joshua Jones, of Sulphur, who was ejected from the car.
The right rear passenger in Mejia-Fequie's vehicle, 20-year-old Esther Centeno, of Bridge City, also died on the scene. Matey noted that Centeno was pregnant.
20-year-old Mejia Medena, of Harvey, was seated in the front seat of Mejia-Fequier's car and suffered critical injuries. Englade was also injured, and both were taken to Interim LSU Public Hospital Level 1 Trauma Center in New Orleans.
"Blood was drawn from Englade and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for toxicology analysis," Matey said in the statement. "Impairment is not suspected for Romishe Mejia-Fequier. However, toxicology results are pending an autopsy."
The crash remains under investigation and criminal charges are pending.
