New Orleans makes the lists for top Memorial Day destinations
Shana Rose Reporting
Memorial Day weekend kicks off next Friday and according to at least a couple of online travel sites we can expect a heavy influx of tourists here in New Orleans.
Priceline.com ranks the French Quarter as the number nine destination this year, and on Orbitz.com the Crescent City ranks at number ten.
Orbitz Senior Editor Jeanenne Tornatore says New Orleans is more affordable right now, with "Hotels averaging $171 throughout the city over the weekend."
And airfare isn't spiking for summer travel either. "Airfare to New Orleans, Honolulu and Denver are seeing double digit drops," over last year says Tornatore.
But if you'd like to escape the Crescent City there are some bargains, including "Las Vegas with hotels averaging just $135 a night, Chicago with hotels averaging $172 a night, and Orlando just $107 a night."
She says if you've had trouble finding lower airfare from Armstrong International, try looking at packages that include hotel and airfare, "In fact sometimes I've seen packages that are at the same price or just a little more than just what the airfare is alone."
