Over 7,000 Kenner Entergy customers without power

Severe weather passing through the New Orleans region this morning left approximately 7,000 plus Kenner customers without power.

Entergy dispatched personnel to Kenner to begin field switching to restore power out of University City Subdivision, where the problem was detected at approximately 5:30 a.m.

The following information was received from Public Service Commissioner Eric Skrmetta:

"A Main Breaker opened (a safety precaution when a problem is detected) interrupting all service to customers being fed from Transformer #2 at University City Substation. Preliminary reports are that either the Tie Breaker failed or that the tie cable connecting the Tie Breakers failed. There was reported severe smoke contamination."

Spokeswoman Jill Smith said any remaining customers without power should have service restored by this afternoon.
