Jefferson council meets to discuss rescheduling tax vote

Jefferson Parish leaders are scrambling to find ways to fund some utilities, after voters said "no" to renewing some property taxes.  The council meets today to discuss its options, but there could be complications that make that easier said than done.

"These are for critical services," Jefferson Parish President John Young said days after the May 4 vote.  "Sewage and water."

Young said he wants to put a do-over on the October ballot, but there may be a problem -- according to the parish assessor's office, those taxes actually expired at the end of 2012.  That means the parish may have to wait six months -- until November -- to hold a re-vote.
