Jazz Fest opens with a forecast as great as its lineup

For the 44th time, the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage festival opens its doors to entertain hundreds of thousands of people over its seven days.

"It's here already.  It really comes up fast, but we know its here and we're really excited," says festival producer Quint Davis.

Davis said he heard from a lot of fans after last year's show that featured a stellar lineup with the likes of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, The Beach Boys, The Zac Brown Band and many other major acts that it would be impossible to match it.  But Davis thinks he's met the challenge this year.

"To end up with Billy Joel's only concert in three years, Fleetwood Mac's only outdoor festival, maybe ever," Davis said, "all these things...that we've tried for years.  'Cause when we get these people it's not just, oh we called them up and they came."

Listen to Davis:

The Black Keys, Frank Ocean, Maroon 5, the Dave Matthews Band and hundreds of other artists are set to provide more than 50 hours of entertainment this weekend and next.
